How is Liquid Chin Augmentation performed?
Liquid chin augmentation is an in office procedure that does not require anesthesia. Topical numbing cream and the filler containing lidocaine is effective in preventing discomfort during the procedure. The dermal filler is injected into the chin area to augment and shape the chin. This complements the overall facial anatomy and is frequently helpful in patients with large-appearing noses on profile view as a “weak” chin makes the nose look bigger.
The patient can “watch” the process in a mirror between injections and give feedback to the injector as the procedure is being performed. Liquid chin augmentation is generally performed in 2 sessions scheduled approximately 2 to 3 weeks apart. The results are immediate and will generally last for 2 years or longer.
Another benefit of liquid chin augmentation is that the procedure is completely reversible. The substance “hyluronidase” (an enzyme) may be injected into the injections site to dissolve the filler and allow the patient’s chin to return to its original shape. No underlying bony resorption, implant mobility, or extrusion, risks associated with surgical chin implants, are associated with non-surgical liquid chin augmentation.
