Facial and Neck Liposuction

Cervical liposuction (neck liposuction) is a great procedure that will remove excessive fat from the neck in select patients. Depending on the patient’s anatomy and needs, it may be performed as an isolated procedure or be combined with another procedure to tighten the muscles of the neck (“submentoplasty”) or with a facelift.

Who is a good candidate for facial and neck liposuction?

  • stable weight
  • younger patients without significant excess skin or jowling
  • firm skin with good muscle tone
  • Favorable overall anatomy (patients with small chins and low hyoid bones are not good candidates)
  • Realistic expectations

How is facial and neck liposuction performed?

Anesthesia for these procedures depends upon the patients’ needs and the exact procedure or procedures being performed. If only neck liposuction is being performed, IV sedation with local anesthetic are usually sufficient to maintain the patient’s comfort. Incisions are very small and placed in inconspicuous areas that are hidden in natural skin creases of the neck.

What is the recovery?

The average recovery time from neck liposuction is approximately 1 to 2 weeks. However, it may take as long as 4 weeks for all bruising and swelling to resolve. Most patients are back to their normal activities within 1 week, though. Patients may experience some tight sensation in their neck if a submentoplasty is performed in conjunction. Neck liposuction is generally not considered a painful procedure.
